Semantic plasticity

چکیده
Semantic change happens both in the long term (over years and decades) and in the very short term (in a single dialogue). This paper outlines a formal account of how the meanings of natural language constructs (typically, words) can change as a result of their use in dialogue. The account has two parts, one semantic and one pragmatic.

Perceptual and semantic contributions to repetition priming of environmental sounds.
Repetition of environmental sounds, like their visual counterparts, can facilitate behavior and modulate neural responses, exemplifying plasticity in how auditory objects are represented or accessed. It remains controversial whether such repetition priming/suppression involves solely plasticity based on acoustic features and/or also access to semantic features. To evaluate contributions of phys...
متن کاملThe Comets Inspector: Towards Run Time Plasticity Control Based on a Semantic Network
In this paper, we describe the Comets Inspector, a software tool that is intended to provide end users (yet, designers and/or developers) with a semantic network in order to control the plasticity of their User Interfaces (UI) at run-time. Thanks to a set of predefined relationships, the semantic network links together various concepts ranging from the final UI (i.e. in terms of available techn...
متن کاملA neural circuit model forming semantic network with exception using spike-timing-dependent plasticity of inhibitory synapses
We propose a neural circuit model forming a semantic network with exceptions using the spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) of inhibitory synapses. To evaluate the proposed model, we conducted nine types of computer simulation by combining the three STDP rules for inhibitory synapses and the three spike pairing rules. The simulation results obtained with the STDP rule for inhibitory synapse...
متن کاملA general framework for semantic plasticity and negotiation
Semantic change happens both in the long term (over years and decades) and in the very short term (in a single dialogue). This paper outlines an abstract and general formal account of how the meanings of natural language constructs (typically, words) can change as a result of their use in dialogue. The account has two parts, one semantic and one pragmatic.
متن کاملMaladaptive Plasticity in Aphasia: Brain Activation Maps Underlying Verb Retrieval Errors
Anomia, or impaired word retrieval, is the most widespread symptom of aphasia, an acquired language impairment secondary to brain damage. In the last decades, functional neuroimaging techniques have enabled studying the neural basis underlying anomia and its recovery. The present study aimed to explore maladaptive plasticity in persistent verb anomia, in three male participants with chronic non...
